In partnership with parents and community, the mission of the NCSD is to ensure that all students develop the knowledge, skills and character necessary to achieve their highest potential and to be productive members of an ever changing global society.
There were times when my boys were growing up that our conversations about school were not very productive. I would ask "what happened at school?" They would respond with - "nothing much." It is important for parents to engage in conversations with your children about school. It gives a parent insight into the life of a child but it also communicates that a parent cares. But instead of asking the obvious question try asking questions that provoke an answer. "What was your favorite part of the day?" "What made you laugh at school?" There are twenty -five questions listed here that a parent can ask to get insight into a child's day at school without asking the obvious questions, "So . . . how was your day?" I would encourage you to ask them all - but not all at once!
