Volunteering with VOICE is a terrific way to meet other parents and support the VO community. Below are the current committees. There are many opportunities to sign up for or even chair a committee. Feel free to reach out with questions or ideas – we’d love to hear from you!

Art smart is a volunteer art program brought to the children of Village Oaks through parent volunteers. Each classroom receives 3 presentations a year. The chairs recruit presenters, schedule the presentations, organize the portfolios, and train the volunteers. Art smart is done continually throughout the year during the school day. This is a great chance to teach kids about art.
Committee members assigned to a class/grade and must be available during the day (in-class) about 3x year but can do planning work on own schedule. Individuals with artist 'connections' may also contribute contact information and help connect chairs with artists. Training and material provided.
Village Oaks provides a Scholastic book fair twice a year. The chairs work with the media specialist and coordinate the book fair volunteers. Volunteers set-up and maintain material, take payment for purchases, fill out order requests, and help students find their desired selections. Book fair is twice a year: once in the fall (November) and once in the spring (March) and is open during the afternoons and evenings.
Various day and evening shifts are available; can sign up for one shift or several. Needs include set up, tear down, assisting shoppers and working the register. Great team atmosphere and opportunity to meet other families.
VOICE will sponsor 2-3 community service efforts to teach kids about responsibility and service. The chair/committee designs projects (or work with the school if there is opportunity). In the past we have supported Coins for Change, Bridgepointe, Project Night Night, Gleaners, Special Olympics, TACC and many other organizations. This committee is responsible for informing VO families of the chosen project, organizing collections and distribution of goods.
This committee has great flexibility with days and times, event planning usually can occur whenever, some coordination required to promote and coordinate event with the school.
The chair of the directory committee will work with the office staff to gather information from Village Oaks parents to help produce a directory for families to connect with one another.
Most of this work is done at the beginning of the school year as directories are published around November; flexible hours. Excellent data entry skills are required. Great for someone with Excel or publishing skills/computer skills.
FAMILY NIGHT OUT
This committee is responsible for planning 1-2 low-cost events for Village Oaks families. Events could include a Chuck E. Cheese night, Movie night, Roller Skating or other family events usually held at night and are up to the discretion of the committee; subject to approval by the VOICE board and the principal. These events are great ways to spend quality time with your child and get to know other Village Oaks families.
Time commitment is flexible based on committee/event needs. Volunteers are needed both for planning events and assisting at events.
Field day is a one-day event held near the end of the school year and is coordinated by the physical education teacher. Chairs for this event, along with the physical education teacher, decide on the games to be played and coordinate volunteers to man each game throughout the day. Field day is held during the school day.
Many volunteers are needed for this fun-filled day at Village Oaks. Ideal for individuals with availability during the school day.
FOURTH GRADE EVENTS
This committee will assist with the 4th Grade Swim Party at the end of the year, and the 4th Grade Celebration in June. The children truly enjoy these special events as they wrap up their time at Village Oaks.
Parents of 4th graders welcome. Planning time commitment is flexible. Will lead volunteer effort at activities.
This committee oversees the VO Math Club/Pentathlon. This group of students meets once a month and requires a few volunteers to monitor and help facilitate games. This would be a good committee for both the stay home parent and working parent as it takes place before the start of the school day. Volunteers will work with students in math centered games/competition.
MCDONALD'S NIGHT/RESTAURANT FUNDRAISERS
This committee coordinates 2-3 restaurant nights out throughout the year -- an opportunity for families to eat together and to raise funds for VOICE. The chairs are responsible for setting the date, communicating with the teaching staff, advertising the event, and helping coordinate the evening. Traditionally at least one event is a McDonald's night, held in the evening around February. Teachers always participate in this fun-filled evening, taking orders and serving the meals at McDonald's. This committee will coordinate additional Restaurant Family Fun Nights at area restaurants throughout the school year.
Time commitment is flexible, so perfect for at-home or working parents.
The memory book is the annual yearbook of Village Oaks Elementary. Chairs coordinate volunteers to arrange for pictures to be taken throughout the year of various classroom and school wide activities. The chairs work closely with the VO office staff and the yearbook company. This is an ongoing project throughout the school year. Great for people who love to take pictures, scrapbook, dabble in graphic design, or just enjoy the challenge of coordinating with others to bring this special keepsake to life.
This committee coordinates the school-wide fundraiser of Little Caesars' Pizza Kit sales to Village Oaks families. Chairs are responsible for distributing flyers, receiving orders, and distributing the kits on arrival day.
Great organizational skills are needed for this committee. Some school-day time commitment is necessary but most of the work coordinated by email and spreadsheets.
Each year, Village Oaks awards a $500 scholarship to a Novi High School graduating senior who is a Village Oaks Alumni. The chair for this committee communicates with the high school, copies essays, and distributes the essays and rubric to members of the committee. The committee reads the essays and selects a winner.
The work for this committee is all done at home and is a one-time event. This committee is perfect for the working parent.
SHOPPER REWARDS/BOX TOPS
This committee is responsible for the promoting various shopper rewards programs (i.e., Meijer Community Rewards and Target Take Charge of Education) and collection of Box tops for Education turned in by students to earn money for Village Oaks. This usually includes a few specific "contests" during the year to accelerate Box tops and help promote collection and submission. Volunteers are needed to count the tops, check for expiration dates and mail in the Box tops. This is one of our BEST fundraisers and it is no cost to families.
This committee is ongoing through the year and is perfect for any parent unable to volunteer during the day at school. All of the work for this committee can be done at home.
The chairs of this committee coordinate the selling of Village Oaks t-shirts, sweatshirts, and anything else with our school logo. Works with the vendor to finalize designs, coordinate and communicate about the sale.
Most of this can be done in evenings, so it's a good opportunity for at-home or working parents.
Two dinners are held for our teachers during fall and spring conferences. The chairs coordinate with volunteers to order catering food, drinks and purchase paper products (if not provided by catering choice), decorations and work the events: set up, serve and clean up. Meal expenses are covered by VOICE. Chairs work with volunteers for drinks and desserts. If you are looking for a way to express your appreciation for the Village Oaks staff, this is it!
This position is perfect for someone who likes to coordinate parties or events. This event involves planning, plus on-site work during the evenings of the conferences: November & March.
Spring Fling is THE annual fundraiser and will be held the last Friday in April. The chairs for this event oversee all of the Spring Fling subcommittees and operations of Spring Fling. This event is the highlight of the year for many students, staff and families, and raises tons of money for great VO programs and events! Time commitment in planning may be done during evenings so working parents can be involved. Must be available to coordinate volunteer efforts the night of Spring Fling (April 27, 2018).
SPRING FLING SUB-COMMITTEES:
- Bake Shop/Cake walk Committee (Chair: Michelle Smith)
This committee organizes volunteers to bake goodies that will be sold in the Bake Shop at Spring Fling.
- Games and Prizes Committee
This committee coordinates all the games for Spring Fling. Responsibilities include: taking inventory of prizes, purchasing additional prizes, designating which prizes are to go with which game, assisting in moving games the week of Spring Fling and being available the to support games and prizes the night of Spring Fling.
- Kitchen Committee
The chairs of this committee are responsible for planning the menu, setting prices, organizing volunteers, booking a district cook, and overseeing kitchen operations the night of Spring Fling.
- Raffle Committee/Business Donations
The raffle committee is responsible for raising a great deal of funds at Spring Fling. The raffle chair is responsible for overseeing the prize collection (canvassing businesses), and the division of prizes into Pick-a-Prize and the General Raffle. This committee is time-consuming and detailed, but very fun and rewarding!
- Classroom Baskets Committee
The classroom baskets committee oversees the parent donations (soliciting requests by classroom and collecting donated items) and creation of the classroom baskets to be raffled off at Spring Fling. The Teacher Lunch and Principal of the Day raffles also fall under this committee.
- Crazy Hair
This committee works to provide one of the most popular room events every year!
This committee oversees security in each active hallway the night of spring fling – to ensure a smooth event for all involved!
- Sweet Shop Committee
The sweet shop is the candy store at Spring Fling. The chairs are responsible for coordinating the candy orders, picking up candy, and selling the candy the night of Spring Fling.
- Tickets Committee
The chairs of this committee are responsible for purchasing the game and raffle tickets to be sold for Spring Fling. They put together the presale packets, flyers with instructions to parents, sell the tickets, and handle all the Spring Fling money along with the VOICE treasurer.
- Set Up & Clean Up Committee
Many volunteers are needed to help set up and clean up spring Fling. This is one day commitment. Set up occurs from 4-6 p.m. and cleanup from 8-10 p.m..
This committee is responsible for the recruiting and managing of shifts for all volunteers – for all aspects of spring fling.
