Parents as Partners

We are extremely blessed to have such active and supportive parents. Parents volunteer on a regular basis to help students and teachers in the classrooms, shelve books in the Media Center, work backstage in our musical productions and hang artwork in the hallways. In addition, our DCC organizes wonderful events for our students and parents such as educational assemblies, Family Fun Night, Family Reading Night, and Field Day. Funds raised through the DCC go back into the school to provide resources for our students and staff.

A Caring Community of Learners

Our students and their families participate in a number of service projects every year. We are especially proud that many of the ideas for these projects are suggested by the students themselves. Past projects have included a Japanese tsunami relief drive, yearly Red Cross blood drives, Relay for Life, the St. Jude Children's Hospital Math-a-thon, Kids, Clay and Community, Read and Be Well book publishing and collecting winter coats and gloves for local homeless shelters.

The Novi School District seeks to provide every child, regardless of national origin or native language, quality and meaningful educational instruction. Consequently, students who are English Language Learners (ELLs), are provided instructional services through our English as a Second Language program designed to meet their unique needs. The program includes services that range from one-on-one basic English language instruction to content tutoring inside the child's classroom.

Student and Teacher Leadership

Deerfield's staff have a long history of being active leaders in the district and community, including participating in action research, collaborating with local universities and presenting at local and national conferences. As a result, we are very excited to begin our journey implementing Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and The Leader In Me this fall. Together we will unleash the leader in each of us. Students will learn to make good choices, set goals, and work together more effectively.

A Celebration of Diversity

We are fortunate to have rich cultural diversity at Deerfield. Throughout the year, we celebrate and honor our similarities and differences. Each fall, parents coordinate a Multicultural Night where students can learn from other students and their families about customs and traditions from other countries represented in our school. In addition to learning a lot of interesting information, it's a great opportunity to sample great international food, wear traditional cultural clothing, and watch fantastic performances on our stage that span the globe.
